Chocolate Martini Recipe

The ultimate yet simple chocolate martini made with Godiva liqueur.

Chocolate Martini Recipe

The chocolate martini is the ultimate dessert or after dinner cocktail. I’ll admit I’ve always been a huge fan. This is slightly modeled after my chocolate espresso martini, however, it was a challenge to get it just right.

In Search of the Best Chocolate Martini Recipe

Once you remove the coffee liqueur and espresso from my espresso martini recipe, you’re left with two ingredients. Vanilla vodka and Godiva liqueur. But you still need a third spirit to make this chocolate martini a true cocktail. I tried Irish cream, but all I could taste was…Irish cream. The home run? Crème de cacao with the addition of a little light cream to balance it out and make it extra creamy.

The result is a slightly creamy cocktail with a perfect balance between vanilla vodka and chocolate liqueurs. Liquid chocolate. I always use vanilla vodka. You can use regular vodka of course, but this is dessert so I highly recommend vanilla for added flavor.

How to Make a Chocolate Martini

Combine vanilla vodka, Godiva Chocolate liqueur, Crème de cacao, and cream in a Boston shaker with ice. Shake well with plenty of ice for 10 seconds and strain into a chilled coupe glass. To add the chocolate swirl. Twirl chocolate sauce around the glass by slowly turning the glass and working your way from bottom to top. Presentation is everything, my friends.

How Much Ice Should I Use When Shaking Cocktails?

Two things. Freeze your coupe glasses for 10 minutes to keep them extra chilled when serving. It looks fancy and your drink will stay chilled longer. Secondly, you need to shake cocktails with at least 1 overflowing cup of ice. Too little ice and your drink will be noticeably warmer from the first sip. This is one misstep I see far too often. 3 standard ice cubes won’t cut it.
