Baked Sweet Potato Fries Recipe

Everyone loves sweet potato fries, that goes without saying—but obviously fries aren’t great for you. Oven baked fries are better for you and so easy to make at home. Seasoned with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper, these simple fries will blow you away and make you forget they aren’t deep fried!

How to Season Sweet Potato Fries

My secret to the perfect sweet potato fries? Lots of spices. Don’t be afraid to season up the fries if you’re looking for lots of flavor. 1 teaspoon of garlic powder and 1 teaspoon of paprika, plus salt and pepper to taste. It’s the perfect garlicky fry blend. The spices makes up for the lack of being fried part, which let’s face it…it’s pretty hard to beat anything fried.

I’ve been told these fries are better than homemade deep fried fries. I honestly think the only real difference is the texture. It’s obviously not as crispy, but the flavor is hard to beat.

How to Bake Sweet Potato Fries in the Oven

Cut the fries into roughly 1/4 inch thick restaurant style strips and toss in a bowl with olive oil and seasoning until evenly coated. Bake at 450°F for 25-30 minutes until golden and crispy. I usually leave the skin on but you can peel the potatoes if you prefer.

How Crispy Should Fries Be?

This is up to you. If you’re looking for really crunchy, I’d recommend baking for 30+ minutes, just be careful the fries don’t start to burn. This can happen really quickly if you don’t monitor.

Most oven fries will continue to crisp up after they’re taken out of the oven, in fact I find them better after they’ve rested for about 5 minutes. Serve up with a steak, or better yet, a juicy burger.

Sweet Potato Fries in Air Fryer

You can also make this recipe in your air fryer! I recommend air frying at 400°F for 18-22 minutes or until fries reach the desired level of crispiness. Remember to always toss the fries 2-3 times during the cooking process to ensure even cooking.
