The blueberry martini was originally inspired by a drink Patty ordered from one of our favorite steakhouses. It basically tasted like a cosmopolitan and antioxidant martini combined. The drink was good, but in my eyes a true blueberry martini shouldn’t have cranberry juice—it takes the drink over and all you can taste is cranberry.
What’s In It?
The blueberry martini is made with blueberry vodka (Stoli blueberry is my fav), triple sec, simple syrup, and fresh lemon juice. Call it a blueberry martini, call it a spiked blueberry lemonade. Either way, it’s fruity and really refreshing.
A few quick tips for this cocktail. I use blueberry vodka, so you don’t need to muddle in fresh blueberry to get the necessary flavor, it’s really for color and presentation, to be honest—otherwise, the drink will be mostly clear with a yellowish hue.
How to Make the Blueberry Martini
Muddle the blueberries in the cocktail shaker first before adding liquor. This will infuse the natural colors. Vigorously shake in a cocktail shaker and double strain into a chilled coupe glass. I throw mine in the freezer for 10 minutes before serving.
What is Double Straining?
This is an entirely optional step to eliminate the blueberry pulp from ending up in the drink. Double straining is pouring a cocktail through two strainers as you fill your glass. Cocktails with fresh muddled fruits are typically poured through a fine-mesh strainer to avoid bits of fruit or herbs floating in the drink.
Strain the cocktail using your shaker’s hawthorn strainer, and let it pass through another fine mesh strainer as you pour into a coupe glass. Any mesh strainer will do.

- 2 ounces blueberry vodka
- 1 ounce triple sec
- 1/2–3/4 ounce simple syrup
- 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 4–5 blueberries, muddled, plus more for garnish
- 1–2 muddled cucumber slices (optional)
- Splash of cranberry juice for color (optional)
- Muddle blueberries (and optional cucumber) in a Boston shaker until pulverized.
- Combine all the remaining ingredients in the cocktail shaker with a large cup of ice. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds and double strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with fresh blueberries.
The cucumber is optional and adds an additional earthy fresh taste to complement the blueberry. If you decide to add, muddle in with the blueberry.
